Rope for Movement – Explopring Fundamental Shibari for Dynamic Movement

September 28th – 1:00 – 4:00 pm

Shibari is the Japanese – inspired practice of aesthetic rope bondage.  In this workshop, students will learn fundamental ties and techniques to begin their rope journey and applicable partner movement techniques.  Though fundamental, these techniques can be combined in uncountable ways to produce elaborate shapes and scenarios.  Besides learning technical skills, we will focus on rope bondage as a movement and acrobatic art, with emphasis on flow, aesthetics, and partner connections.  This workshop is appropriate for students that wish to learn shibari as a performative art, or as a private practice.

Though this class is intended for pairs, individual attendees are welcome, and will have the option to either pair with a tying partner in class or self-tie.

Prerequisites:

There are no technical prerequisites for this class.  Students are invited to bring their own rope if they have it.  We are available to offer recommendations for in-workshop use.  Students should follow the general class attire guidelines: clothing items that are easy to move in, and that are not baggy.

HARNESSING YOUR INNER FELINE WITH JUDAS SAINT JAMES: A CONFIDENCE AND SLOW BURN MOVEMENT WORKSHOP

Objective: The objective of this workshop is to build confidence through embracing our feline energy and applying it onstage through slow burn movement and audience interaction.

Description: This class is about how to approach movement through your own personal feline energy. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about some of the mythical origins of feline deities in Africa and Egypt with a special focus on Bastet. Bastet is a Kemetic (Egyptian) goddess of cats, sensuality, pleasure, dance and healing. Many of these things fall under movement and performance art. Understanding her energy and how we can tap into it as people and performers will be at the core of this class. This class is about embracing and validating individuality and inner confidence and then applying it through slow burn movements. While movement will be part of this class, Harnessing Your Inner Feline focuses on looking inward and exploring your own energetics around eroticism and sensuality.
